What Is GoCardless? 

GoCardless is an online Direct Debit specialist that manages the entire collection process on your behalf. It's perfect for invoice payments of variable amounts, subscriptions and fees.

  • Direct Debit allows you to collect funds automatically on payment dates.
  • Once a Direct Debit is in place, you can use it to collect one-off or recurring payments of any amount.
  • You choose the dates you collect funds, meaning you’ll be able to predict future revenue for your business.
  • Merchants can either collect and manage their payments using a simple online tool or can integrate with our REST API.

How It Works

In GoProposal we recommend taking payments via GoCardless. This enables you to collect payment from your clients automatically on a monthly recurring basis.

You can link to your GoCardless account in GoProposal. Once done so, you can set the system up to prompt your clients to set up their direct debit mandate upon signing the letter of engagement.

How To Connect With GoCardless

Before you can make use of this integration you will need to set-up a GoCardless account

Step 1. Establishing the link

You can link the two accounts by logging into the admin area of your GoProposal app and going to Settings > Integrations. Select GoCardless on the left hand tab.

Slide the toggle on.

Connect the two accounts by copying and pasting the direct debit mandate URL from your GoCardless account into the field below.

Step 2. Setting the confirmation message

On this page, you can also choose how you want everything to appear when your client signs their letter of engagement.

Direct your client straight to payment

If you choose the straight to payment option, your clients will be sent straight to the direct debit mandate form when they sign.

Confirmation message then direct to payment

Choosing confirmation to payment will allow you to display a confirmation message to your client. There will be a button here that will take them to their payment set-up.

You can choose what the headline, instruction and payment start date message is by filling out the above fields respectively.

Step 3. Save your settings

Once you've set up the integration and decided on your message, save your settings at the bottom of the page.

Getting The Mandate Link


Retrieve the mandate URL by going to Customers > New Customer. You should find a link in the format ''

GoCardless for Xero

Copy the mandate URL from your GoCardless for Xero account by going to Settings > Xero Settings > Xero Automation.
