What is a proposal type and can I rename it?

Learn what proposal types are in GoProposal, where they appear, and whether you can change their names.

Written by Russell Henderson

Proposal types indicate the type of work linked to a proposal. In GoProposal, there are three default types:

  • Proposal – standard proposals

  • Renewal – ongoing or repeat work

  • Extra Work Order – additional services outside the main agreement

Proposal types appear on the front cover of proposals. GoProposal colour-codes them on the dashboard for quick identification:

  • Black = Proposal

  • Green = Renewal

  • Blue = Extra Work Order

They also help you review revenue by type on the dashboard.

Where to assign proposal types

You can assign a proposal type to each proposal template by editing its settings.

  1. Go to Configure and select Templates & Emails.

  2. Click Edit next to the template you want to update.

  3. Choose the appropriate Proposal Type from the dropdown menu.

  4. Scroll down to click Save template.

Can I change the names of proposal types?

Currently, you can’t rename the three default proposal types.

  • To add more detail, you can:

    • Include project names in proposals

    • Customise proposal introductions for specific client needs

Your proposals will display the assigned type on the front cover and in the dashboard for easy tracking.
