Why is GoCardless not working?

If GoCardless isn't working in GoProposal, it’s often due to missing templates, incorrect settings, or incomplete client mandates.

Check GoCardless integration settings

  1. Go to Settings and select Integrations.

  2. Check you've connected GoCardless.

  3. Check if templates are linked to trigger GoCardless sign-up during the proposal process.

  4. If you haven't linked any templates, add the relevant templates for payment processing.

Verify when the mandate form appears

During proposal acceptance:

  • Open the signing link from your email

  • Select Approve my proposal to check if the mandate form appears and if the client has completed it

After proposal acceptance:

  • Log in to your GoCardless account

  • Check if you've created the client record:

    • Yes: The form was completed

    • No: The form wasn’t completed

Test the process

You can create a sample proposal using your updated settings to confirm the GoCardless pop-up appears at the correct stage.

Check for additional authorisation

If a client requires more than one signatory for Direct debits, their GoCardless account will show a grey dot. this means they need to take further action before the mandate becomes active.

Additional checks

  • If connecting GoCardless to Xero, ensure you use GoCardless for Xero, not GoCardless in Xero

  • Regularly review your GoCardless settings and templates

  • Test the process periodically with sample proposals to identify issues early
