How to set up Making Tax Digital (MTD) engagement letters

With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax approaching, it’s essential to update your engagement letters for Sole Trader clients. OverSuite provides pre-generated, compliant content and tailors it to your firm, including MTD service terms. If you’re not using OverSuite yet, you can enable it in minutes through your GoProposal account.


Set up MTD engagement letters for Sage Accountants customers

Step 1 - Enable OverSuite

  1. From your Sage for Accountants sidebar, open GoProposal for your practice.

  2. Go to Configure and select Engagement Letters.

  3. Complete the onboarding questions to tailor your engagement letters.

  4. Your MTD-ready engagement letters are now available.

Step 2 - Add MTD line items

  1. Go to Configure and select Line Items.

  2. Click Global actions and select Import Line Items.

  3. Tick the Import box in the Making Tax Digital section and click Import Sections.

  4. Alternatively, create your own MTD line items.

  5. Edit each line item to reflect your services.

  6. From the Service Schedule dropdown menu, select the relevant OverSuite schedule. For example, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax - Schedule A,B, or C.

  7. Click Save Sections.

You can now send your renewal engagement letters using one of two options:

Option A - From the client record

  1. Connect GoProposal to the relevant client or open an existing client record.

  2. Create or renew a proposal and engagement letter.

  3. Add MTD services, preview, and send for e-signature.

Option B - From the proposal dashboard

  1. Go to the Proposals and Engagement Letters tab in the dashboard.

  2. Find an accepted engagement.

  3. Click the Actions button on the right-hand side and select Renew.

  4. Add MTD services, preview, and send for e-signature.

📎NOTE: If MTD services are missing, check that you've imported line items and assigned them to the correct OverSuite schedule.

📌TIP: Use Renew for linked renewals; use Duplicate only for a different client.

Set up MTD engagement letters for GoProposal standalone customers

Step 1- Enable OverSuite

  1. Go to Configure and select Engagement Letters.

  2. Select OverSuite and complete the onboarding questions.

Step 2 - Add MTD line items

  1. Go to Configure and select Line Items.

  2. Click Global actions and select Import Line Items.

  3. Assign each line item to the correct OverSuite schedule.

Step 3 - Renew engagements

  1. Go to the Proposals and Engagement Letters tab in the dashboard.

  2. Find an accepted engagement.

  3. Click the Actions button on the right-hand side and select Renew.

  4. Add MTD services, remove outdated services, preview, and send for e-signature.

Your engagement letters are now MTD-compliant and ready for client renewals.
